HILLTOP HOUSE IN THE CHIANTI

For one or two guests
Hosts Giuliana and Paolo, an entrepeneur live in a restored country house
on a hilltop with splendid views across the Arno valley and up to the
distant mountains of Pratomagno.
The property is 4k from Figline Valdarno, twenty-five minutes by train
from Florence and 7k from the north-south motorway exit at Incisa Valdarno.
The house is surrounded by its own cultivated land, olive-groves and woods
and looked after by the family. Giuliana is a member of the local Council
and is an expert on the Chianti and Valdarno wine area and their products.
The guest room has a double bed, or two singles, and its own private bathroom
with a shower. Private access directly to the garden. Pets outside, not
in the house, and farm animals in the adjacent fields. No smokers in the
home.

Saturday - Arrival in the afternoon. Welcome visit to
house and welcome evening meal with the host family.
Sunday - Breakfast. Free day for guests with lunch and
evening meal in the family.
Monday - Breakfast. Full-day excursion to towns of the
Chianti wine area: Gaiole, with a visit to the splendid castle of Vertine
and the Castello di Brolio, symbol of the Chianti castles and Barone Ricasoli
family. Castle of Ama, of Etruscan origin, famous for its wine. Radda
in Chianti, medieval town and centre of the Chianti Classico Gallo Nero.
Snack during excursion and evening meal at home.
Tuesday - Breakfast. Full-day excursion to Greve in Chianti
- walk around the square, shopping, and visit to the wine shops. On to
Montefioralle and through the Chianti countryside to Volpaia to the 10th
century castle. Snack during excursion and evening meal at home.
Wednesday - Breakfast. Half-day excursion to Valdarno
and its villages. Lunch and evening meal at home.
Thursday - Breakfast. Full-day excursion to San Gimignano
with its towers and narrow streets and on to Monteriggioni dating back
to 1213, the fortified castle built to defend Siena. Snack during excursion.
Evening meal at home.
Friday - Breakfast. Half-day excursion to a wine producing
farm. Or a visit to the local Fashion Outlets. Lunch at home. Farewell
evening meal.
Saturday - Breakfast. Morning departure.
Excursions and family conversation in English, French or Italian.
Full-day excursions from early morning to mid-afternoon. Half-day excursion
from early morning to noon. By request, the above full-day excursions
may be changed with visits to Florence, Siena, Arezzo or Pienza.

Wednesday - Breakfast. Full-day excursion either to Florence,
or to Siena, or to San Gimignano. Snack during excursion and evening meal
at home.
Thursday - Breakfast. Visit to a local wine-producing
farm. Lunch at home and three hours of cooking activities. Evening meal
at home.
Friday - Breakfast. Visit to a local confectioner's shop
where pastries and sweets are made in a traditional manner, or during
the olive harvest period a visit can be planned to a local farm to see
production. Lunch and three hours of cooking activities. Farewell evening
meal.
Saturday - Breakfast. Morning departure.

Arrival for both programs
Giuliana can meet students arriving by plane at Florence airport or railway
station. Two-way transfer fee by car Euro 65,oo. Or free transfer from
Figline Valdarno railway station. Guests arriving by car have private
parking facilities within the house grounds.
